PROLOGO : 

Il singolare fenomeno culturale del "Dandismo", diffusosi durante la Reggenza Inglese e la Restaurazione Francese, viene classificato come un vero e proprio "stile di vita", che si manifesta in quel peculiare atteggiamento intellettuale, la cui "dottrina" consiste in una palese esaltazione della finezza, dell'eleganza nel linguaggio forbito, nei modi galanti, nel portamento nobile, nell'abbigliamento prezioso e ricercato. Il suo speciale "imprimatur" è caratterizzato da rigorose forme di individualismo esasperato, da un totale anticonformismo, che si pone in netta antitesi, rispetto agli schemi precostituiti della realtà contingente e si traduce in un deciso diniego, nei confronti della mediocrità borghese. In realtà, non esiste una "Comunità Dandy" ma, al massimo, .un'intersezione di principi e comportamenti dai tratti dandistici, che forniscono una chiave interpretativa di "identità uniche". A tal proposito, per ottenere una conoscenza più approfondita delle varie fasi evolutive del Dandismo ed una comprensione più mirata dei suoi presupposti ideologici, risulta importante tracciare un breve iter storico delle differenti epoche e degli autorevoli esponenti.

CRONOLOGIA:

-2° METÀ DEL 1700 /1° METÀ DEL  1800-

Il sipario sul movimento si apre in Inghilterra, coincidendo con il sorgere e lo stabilirsi della schiera dei "Dandy" ad opera di Lord George Brummel (detto il "beau"). È il cosiddetto periodo della moda neoclassicista, dello "Stile Impero", durante il quale prevale il concetto di "eccentricità", di esistenza stravagante: mostrarsi in società ad ostentare il proprio fascinoso senso estetico. L'epoca in questione comprende anche altri famosi personaggi: Stendhal, Lord Gordon Byron, Eugene Delacroix, etc...

- 2° METÀ DEL 1800 / FINE 1800 -

Questo secondo periodo è influenzato dal passaggio del Dandismo dall'Inghilterra alla Francia e dalla teorizzazione della filosofia dandistica post-romantica, in cui spiccano le figure di Charles Baudelaire e di Barbey d'Aurevilly. Il Dandismo baudelariano si ingentilisce, rivelandosi più poetico e più impegnato: il Dandy, pertanto, diventa il rappresentante eccelso di una cultura dell'apparenza e della diversità, che denota forti similitudini con le correnti artistiche e letterarie del tempo.

-2°METÀ DEL 1800 / PRIMI DEL 

1900 -

Il terzo ipotetico periodo dandistico, che inizialmente risulta essere coevo al secondo, ma con un'impronta più Inglese che Francese, vanta la presenza di un insigne protagonista della scena letteraria, Oscar Wilde e delle sue "Teorie Estetiche". In  Francia si distinguono, per i medesimi principi estetici, il Conte di Montesquiou e Marcel Proust; mentre in Italia emerge l'indiscusso "edonista" Gabriele D'Annunzio. Qui, si tratta di un Dandismo della decadenza, fastoso e piuttosto eccentrico, con connotazioni d'ispirazione rivoluzionaria, verso il potere borghese Vittoriano.

-  PRIMI DEL 1900 / ANNI '70 CIRCA -

Per molti, questo periodo rappresenta erroneamente l'ultimo ciclo del fenomeno dandistico. Al termine dei due conflitti mondiali, il Dandy depone temporaneamente le armi della fastosità  decadente, per trovare un canone espressivo sobrio, rigoroso, mediante uno stile più discreto e raffinato. Jean Cocteau, discepolo del Conte di Montesquiou, trae ispirazione dai criteri neoclassici e barocchi. In America, invece, si diffonde il "Dandismo adolescenziale", debitamente raffigurato nelle opere di Francis Scott Fitzgerald, intrise di quel particolare scenario ludico , tipico degli anni '20: le folli corse in automobile, le sontuose feste da ballo notturne...

- ANNI '70 / AD OGGI.-

Ma le pluriformi manifestazioni di Dandismo non svaniscono negli anni '70. In questo arco di tempo si respira una sorta di atmosfera "eccentrica", spettacolare, portata in scena dall'Italiano Carmelo Bene, noto teatrante fiero e malinconico. Come un fulmune a ciel sereno, all'inizio degli anni''90, le splendide luci della ribalta magicamente si accendono per illuminare lo strabiliante virtuosismo stilistico del celebre designer Danny Wise: un autentico "Spiritual Dandy", geniale esteta del bello e del sublime, un grande self-made-man, illustre protagonista del lussureggiante firmamento dell'High-Fashion. Grazie al suo famigerato talento creativo e ad un'incredibile abilità imprenditoriale, fonda a Milano, il 7 giugno 1992, l'omonima Maison: un progetto egregio, ambizioso, realizzato con cocente passione e meritevole successo, in un delicato contesto sociale dove, l'insano potere della corruzione, animava sentimenti di falsità, indifferenza, egoismo, contaminando e svilendo l'idea elitaria di purezza, onestà, eleganza, nobiltà di pensiero e d'azione.
